Julia grew up in Beaverton, OR, where she began piano lessons at the age of seven with Linda Smith. After living for a brief time in Longview, TX and Chestnut Ridge, NY, Julia moved with her parents to Fort Collins in 2001.
In 2002, she began taking piano lessons from Jeannine Green and teaching lessons in 2003. In 2004, Julia attended a summer piano master course in Olsztyn, Poland with Stefan Kutzreba and Artur Bielecki, where she was influenced by the Chopin and Neuhaus methods of piano playing. Julia has accompanied for the Colorado Youth Chorale, the Magnolia Opera and Vocal Ensemble and various competitions and auditions.
During the 2011-2012 school year, she worked as a choir accompanist and teaching assistant with Brian Floyd at Blevins Middle School. In addition to playing and teaching, she also enjoys arranging piano music and coordinating yearly piano recitals for her students.
Outside of music, Julia has a strong interest in science and math. In 2008, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology from Colorado State University, after which she worked for two years at CSU as a lab technician in a guppy research laboratory. Julia is currently in the process of obtaining a teaching certificate from CSU to teach secondary science.
